Advanced Construction Techniques Ltd. was awarded the project by the US Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District through a Best Value RFP Selection process.

The work included embankment and overburden casing installation through the earthen dam utilizing sonic drilling, rotatory and percussion overburden and embankment drilling, percussion rock drilling, exploratory core drilling, borehole temperature profiling, borehole directional survey, borehole imaging survey, borehole washing, permeability testing, pressure grouting using balanced stable grout mixes, and low mobility grouting. Pressure grouting includes casing grouting through clay core, epikarst grouting to prevent future slurry losses, and downstage rock grouting. Grouting materials included: silica fume portland cement, bentonite, superplasticizer, welan gum, and low mobility grout. An extensive grout mix testing program was used to develop balanced stable grout mix formulations for the project and extensive quality control testing was routinely performed to ensure that mix properties were maintained throughout the project.

For this project, IntelliGrout, was utilized for real time electronic monitoring and recording of the permeability testing and grouting. IntelliGrout, provides powerful analytical and graphical tools for production grouting analysis. The system is integrated with AutoCAD and provides never before available graphical representations of water testing and grouting data for closure analysis. The real time electronic data was uploaded weekly to the IntelliGrout Website allowing all project participants access to the data remotely.

Monitoring while drilling (MWD) was utilized for both overburden and rock drilling. The information obtained from MWD has incorporated into IntelliGrout. Also, temperature profiling, borehole deviation and borehole imaging were performed and incorporated into
